Scotland is the place where ‘Le Tour’ could start after 2010 as officials have confirmed that the the Tour is setup to start in Brittany and Monaco the next two years.
EventScotland a company that was launched early this year with the aim of making Scotland one of the world's major events destinations, is the one promoting the event.
'It's an iconic world-class event, and the kind of event that would sit very well within our portfolio of major events. We haven't discussed possible years yet, or where it might happen.' Said Leon Thompson, EventScotland’s corporate communications manager.
If Tour Director Christian Prudhomme confirms it, Scotland will host the prologue and the first stage of the competition.
Scottish Tour de France rider David Millar said: “It would be amazing, and I think it is realistic.”
Japan has also shown an interest but Scotland has an edge over the Asians due to their proximity to France.
Scotland is not only looking to be part of the Tour de France, Glasgow was just awarded the 2014 Commonwealth Games and they want to stage soccer European Championships after 2016.
This should be a big boost for Scotland’s economy and an honor for a country that has an average level on sports compared to other European countries.
