It was 1980 when the Phillies came up with their only World Series Title, now they have the chance of doing it again.
Philadelphia beat the Dodgers on 5 games 4-1 and won the National League title, their first since 1993 and their sixth on the franchise’s history.
The Phillies are waiting for the winner of the series for the American League between the Rays and the Red Sox. TampaBay is leading 3-1 and is just one game away to join the champions of the NL at the World Series, which begins on Wednesday, October 22 at the ballpark of the AL Champions.
Last night came the final game of the series with a 5-1 victory for the Phillies. Two not so recognized players hit homeruns: Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs, whom are the newest sports heroes in Philadelphia, the got most of the media attention yesterday over players like Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.
Stairs, along with teammate Jamie Moyer are the only two players which were part of the Phillies when the franchise was so close to win the World Series.
"Just seeing the celebration was special - I was just a fan then, for me, it's just exciting to be a part of the games now. It's special for the organization, the ownership and the fans that have supported the Phillies all this time." Moyer said after yesterday’s win.
