Ramirez out of the Red Sox

Manny Ramirez might be at the end of his run with the Red Sox, as Boston is planning on trading the 36 year-old left fielder within the next four days, as the MLB trade deadline is on Thursday at 4 pm.

Ramirez’s bad reputation is the main reason for the Sox to want him out of their roster, and it seems like the Mets and the Phillies are the teams showing the most interest in his services, though New York is the team with the most chances.

The only thing Manny Ramirez is currently asking is for the team to hire him to make him a free agent after one season.

"I don't care where I play; I can even play in Iraq if need be." Ramirez said when interviewed by ESPN.

All in all the new team for Ramirez will see some benefits besides having the services of a player that is playing greatly recently, as they will get excellent picks at the coming MLB draft as Manny might get traded again due to his free agent request, and they will not have to cover the lump sum of $20 million per season for another year with Ramirez wearing their shirt.

So the future is uncertain for the guy that is included in the exclusive list of 24 players to have come up with 500 career home-runs, what is a fact is that any team that picks him, will have a great deal of experience on their team. At lest for one season…

Colt Brennan signs 4-year deal with Redskins

Sure, Colt Brennan was the 186 overall pick at the recent NFL draft, but the 24 year-old quarterback has lots of potential and will be competing head-to-head with Todd Collins and Jason Campbell for the first quarterback place at the Redskins, the team that draft him as the 10th pick of the sixt round, under a contract of $1.8 million dollars for 4 years.

Brennan got signed to stay at the third-string quaterback position, while Collins is at second and Campbell is Washington’s main man to throw passes for touchdowns.

The former QB for Hawaii got listed at the 2007 draft but soon after he drop the draft and went to play his senior college year, this year he was automatically eligible

Colt Brennan had knee surgery on April, but the NFL rookie has recovered fully and is expected to play at his best.

The California native finished last season at the NCAA with 4,343 yards and 38 touchdowns and only 17 interceptions, which leaded Hawaii to an outstanding 12-1 record and the chance to be at the Sugar Bowl.

Among his many awards, Brennan has the NCAA record for most career touchdown passes with 131 and finished third in the voting for the Heissman throphy of last year with 632 points.

Michael Vick files for bankruptcy

For Michael Vick, not only his professional football career at the NFL is over, but also his cash, as Vick just recently filed for bankruptcy, citing debts between $10 and $50 million dollars, all of that due to the dog fighting controversy around Vick’s gambling operation called Bad Newz Kennels.

Vick’s lawyer said that when his client gets his freedom back, he’s hoping to be able to rebuild his life and resume his NFL career, the question is, who will be interested in his services? Most likely the Cowboys (just kidding).

The decision of filing for bankruptcy came after failing to “work out consensual resolutions with each of his creditors,” now, let’s list some of his major debts:

  • $3.75 million for bonus money to be paid back to the Falcons
  • $4.5 million for Joel Enterprises Inc for breach of contract
  • $2.5 million for Royal Bank of Canada, due to a real estate loan

These are 3 creditors of a list of 7 that sums up part of the debt to $12.8 million.

Michael Vick, the number one pick at the 2001 NFL Draft, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at a court in Newport News, Virginia.

Vick’s dogs are currently being treated at a Utah animal shelter, they will remain there for a period of about 6 to 12 months while they completely heal in order to have the chance of being adopted.

MLB All-Star game will be held on July 15th

In just a week, fans of baseball will be cheering not to their own teams, but to their favorite players among the league as the MLB All-Star game is scheduled to take place on July 15th at Yankee Stadium.

The roster for both leagues is ready, with the following players as starters:

American League:

Joe Mauer (Twins), Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox), Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox), Alex Rodriguez (Yankees), Derek Jeter (Yankees), Josh Hamilton (Rangers), Manny Ramirez (Red Sox), and Ichiro Suzuki (Mariners).

National League:

Geovany Soto (Cubs), Lance Berkman (Astros), Chase Utley (Phillies), Chipper Jones (Braves), Hanley Ramirez (Marlins), Ryan Braun (Brewers), Kosuke Fukudome (Cubs) and Alfonso Soriano (Cubs).

As we can see, Red Sox and Cubs are the two teams with the most players (7 each) among the 30 teams in both leagues.

Rosters were announced yesterday, with Alex Rodriguez leading the voting at the American league, while Chase Utley leading the voting at the National league. Rodriguez is just one of the two players at the game with 12 appearances, the other one being Manny Ramirez, both on the American league, while at the National league Alfonso Soriano is the one with the most with 7.

Bad news came to Mike Mussina (Yankees) and Mike Lowell (Red Sox) as none were selected in despite of being part of the main attraction of both of their teams.

I am personally giving the win to the American League, but anything can happen and guys like Chase Utley can turn the tables in favor of the Nationals, so, if you want to place a bet, the time is now, get in touch with your local bookie and watch the game in a few days with a little more of action that just watching who wins or who losses.

Josh Smith's 10 top plays of 06/07 season

Josh Smith heading to Philly

The Sixers might be the next home of Josh Smith, the current Hawks forward that holds the record of being the youngest player in NBA history to break the 500 block mark.

Yesterday the 76ers gave Smith a tour through the Wachovia center and the city in general, and it seems like fans are already counting with the services of the forward for the coming NBA season, as he was showed a great deal of appreciation during his stay at Philadelphia.

Smith and his agent went throught he day discussing numbers with 76ers reps, so the current offer for Josh Smith to wear Philly’s shirt is of $11.5 million for a single season, which might lead to a deal close to the $67 million for 5-years.

Since Josh Smith is a restricted agent, the Hawks can match any offer any other team makes, and so the edge will be on Atlanta’s side, but chances that Smith will leave his hometown for Philadephia are high. "They fit the style of play that I like to play, which is up-tempo," Smith told reporters at the airport. "They have great talent. This is one of the teams that I'm looking at." Said Josh Smith of the 76ers, who had a shirt with his name on the locker room .

Smith is not the only Hawks player to be pretended by Philly, as Josh Childress is also expected to meet with 76ers reps this coming Monday.

Baron Davis leaves Warriors

Baron Davis is no longer a Warrior, as he opted for terminating his contract with Golden State taking advantage of an early-termination clause.

Now the question is, where will be Davis heading now? Lets consider that he just walked away from the-almost $18 million remaining for the last year on his contract.

Since most teams are hands-tied due to salary cap, the Clippers seems to be the only team who is able to hire the services of the 29 point guard at the moment, and for that, they will have to let go Elton Brand and Corey Maggette whom are also looking to opt out of their contracts, and so if that happens, it will create a space for David to sign a good deal with LA. A deal that will round the $60 million dollars for 5 years.

The Warriors knew that Davis wasn’t going to be happy when he asked for an extension, as the LA native was asking a mega-deal last summer, and Golden State simply couldn’t pleased him at the time. Well, the Warriors knew that Baron Davis wasn’t going to deliver as he did the past 3 years he was part of the team, but Davis is truly confident of his talent, and that is why he wanted out.

So if Baron Davis leaves the Warriors, Monta Ellis is surely to take over on Davis’s duties, plus Ellis is 7 years younger and has more time to progress with his basketball.

Don’t be surprised if Baron Davis wears an LA Clippers shirt real soon.
